Viruses can infect your computer when you open email attachments or download content from websites or other media such as diskettes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, USB drives, etc. that are infected. It is critical that you keep up-to-date anti-virus software on your computer at all times because it scans all information trying to enter your computer and will inform you whether downloads are virus-free or not. Anti-virus software can also detect viruses on your computer and prevent them from spreading.
Without anti-virus software installed and kept updated regularly, you risk having your files corrupted or lost and, worst case scenario, your computer permanently damaged.
