An important tool to help stop the spread of COVID-19

We know that eliminating COVID-19 takes more than science; it requires our collective effort. Developed by the Government of Ontario, the free COVID Alert app lets you know if you’ve been exposed to the virus so you can get tested.

In a nutshell how it works

The COVID Alert app is an easy way to enable mass contact tracing — which we know is one way the virus can be eliminated.

The app allows an infected person to report their positive test result, which then triggers an alert to any other app users who’ve been within 2 metres of them in the last 14 days. Here's a video showing how the app works:

What it won’t do

The COVID Alert app is designed to ensure your personal information is always secure. The app does not collect your location, name, identity, address, contacts, or health information.

Downloading the app isn't mandatory, but it is an effective tool in the fight against COVID-19, so every one of us is encouraged to use it. Visit the Government of Canada's COVID Alert App site for more information and to download the app for your iOS or Android device.
